Birthday Party Fun

Today, the kids and I went to a paint-your-own-pottery birthday party. Jack had tons of fun. He chose a motercycle to paint. It has to go in the kiln to be fired, and then we will get it back. I will update with pictures when we get it back. Audrey also got to paint. She and I smeared some colors on a tile and then she put her hand print on the tile. She wasn't too keen on painting, but she had fun eating pizza and running around. They had a small area like build-a-bear, so she and the other little ones kept going up there and picking up stuffed animals to carry around.

I adorned the gift that we brought for the birthday girl (the pastor's 5 year old daughter) with a homemade bow. This was my first attempt at a bow, I was surprised how easily it came together. I am looking forward to making more bows!

I am also including a picture of Jack with one of his new friends, Seth. There are two boys that Jack gets along with great a church (this is one of them). I believe Seth is 9 or 10, but he is such a nice boy that you would never know there is an age difference between the two. It probably helps that Jack is pretty mature for his age also. Behind Audrey is Jacob, Jack's other friend. Jacob is the same age as Seth, and is great with both Jack and Audrey.

And one last picture for today. After we got home, I went to look in on Audrey, quietly playing in her room by herself. She was so cute, just pulling books off her bookshelf and "reading" books to herself.

Audrey's Rock Star Look

I went to the thrift store to find some tee shirts, which was harder than I expected. I only found one tee shirt that I liked. I followed the tutorial that I shared earlier. It only took me about an hour to make. The bottom of the shirt flares out too much for me. I am thinking about putting bias tape along the bottom to pull it in a little.

Another awesome giveaway

If anyone has kids who like to play in the kitchen, you have to check out this site. Click this blog to enter a giveaway for some felt food. Within the blog, there is a link to the etsy site, where you can either buy the food already made or buy patterns to make your own.

Yay! A Project Done!

Here are a few pictures of my newest project. It is from a New Look pattern. It only took me two days to complete, and I added the band on the bottom of the pants all by myself :o) My model isn't the most cooperative model, hence the three pictures.

We haven't done much this week, as it's been pretty humid here and the pool is closed during the week since the kids have gone back to school. Maybe we'll get there tonight. Both of the kids love to swim, so I'd like to get as much swimming in as possible before the pool closes for the season.

Fun Find!

Today, I entered a giveaway at bluecricketdesign.net for the Essential kit from ohsosassy.com
Out of curiosity, I checked out Oh So Sassy's page. They sell kits which include a pattern, all the fabric and supplies for around $20 for each individual pattern. You can also buy just the patterns for $10. That's a pretty good price, but I am still feeling a little spoiled at catching the 99 cent McCalls sale.
BUT the cool thing I saw on Oh So Sassy's page, was an option to buy supplies to have a sewing party. How much fun would that be!!!!! It's not one of those cheesy, sales things. You just get 10 friends together who like to sew (I don't think I even have that many friends, but some of you may :o) and then you have a party and sew together.
Maybe I'm a little crazy, but that sounds that a ton of fun to me!

Big News

Soon there will be another Krohn! He/She is due March 2, 2011. I had an ultrasound yesterday to establish a due date. My scanner is broken so I will try and take a picture of the ultrasound to upload. He/She looks like a gummy bear, but is very active. You could even see finger definition.

Yogurt

Wordless Wednesday

I was going to post just one picture without any words today for a "Wordless Wednesday" but Audrey decided to feed herself with a utensil for the first time, and I just had to share. I couldn't get the video to upload here, so you will have to link to YouTube. Click Here to see Audrey in action.

Wish List

There are so many amazing projects out there that I am dying to do. I decided that I'd be more likely to complete them if I shared my aspirations with you.
Nicole from Create & Delegate has designed this adorable skirt that can be made in any size!

Nicole has also created an adorable dress.
I need to go to the thrift shop and find some cute tee shirts for this one!
the super easy directions

And, lastly (for now), I love the dresses that you make from a men's shirt. Nicole created the dress from "Made by Lex" (Picture from Create & Delegate)
If anyone has old tee shirts or men's shirts that you don't want anymore and you think they'd make cute dresses, feel free to send them my way! :o)

A Busy Weekend

We have had quite a nice weekend. It was warm, but not that bad and we have had just enough activity. On Friday, the kids and I went to Chuck E Cheese for a playgroup meetup. I have never been to a Chuck E Cheese, and I wasn't really looking forward to it, but it was a good way for Jack to play with some of the new friends he has made in the area. It wasn't that bad, and it only cost me $30--goodness that place is a money trap! This was definitely a splurge. But Jack had a blast playing games and hanging out with kids his own age and

Audrey had fun playing with anything with a steering wheel.

For dinner, I didn't feel like messing with much, so I made chicken noodle soup with home made noodles and a salad. They really made the dish! And they were sooo easy to make (without a pasta machine).

On Saturday, we took our first trip to Baton Rouge for a hot air balloon festival. It was pretty interesting. It was free to get in and the parking was free! There was a kid's area with all sorts of free activities (we're really making up for Chuck E Cheese).

They had two inflatable water slides-which Jack loved!!! Hmmm, how lovely. Dirt + Water + Kids = Muddy Mess They also had pony rides (which I wouldn't allow our wet muddy child to do) and a traveling zoo. This was the cutest--they had a pig, a goat, a calf, and all of these exotic, beautiful fowl. They also had 3 day old chicks, baby bunnies, and baby ducklings all for the kids to hold. After the kids area, we got something to eat and drink, and then we watched the army demonstrate parachute jumps and watched the hot air balloons inflate and listened to live bands play great music.

(I have this great video of Audrey dancing but I took it with the phone and can't save it to the computer. Grrrrr!!! It's so cute, there was a fire truck honking behind us and she stops dancing every time it honked it's horn and then starts dancing again.)
Well, here is a video of Jack at Chuck E Cheese.

A Cockroach and Some Hummus

I have made my first cockroach kill! These "little" buggers totally freak me out in the house, but somehow in the garage I found the courage to mash the nasty creature with a garbage can. (It was the first thing I could get my hands on.) I made so much noise in the process, that Bryan came out to make sure I was ok. He was quite surprised that I finally found the courage to kill a cockroach.

Today, we had a playdate with Jack's friend Spencer and his mom Cristy. Cristy and I were talking about Greek restaurants and I got a craving for hummus. So for lunch, we had humus with "dippers." It was so yummy! The recipe actually came from the King Arthur Four Whole Grain Baking cookbook:
In a food processor, combine:
1/4c. Tahini
1TBS lemon juice
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp cumin
2-3 garlic cloves
1 can drained chick peas (reserve the juice)
Blend it until it's smooth then add in the chick pea juice until you get your desired consistency.

Lastly, here's a picture of the kiddos to make up for the nasty picture of the cockroach.

Getting Involved

Last night, I attended the monthly meeting for our home owner's association. It was a very small meeting, there aren't that many people involved, but those that were there were very nice, welcoming, and had some great ideas. The reason that I finally attended a meeting was because they needed a treasurer, and guess who volunteered? :0) I am really excited. We live in a great community with great potential, and now I have a way to voice my opinions. I have to go to the bank tomorrow to sign a signature card. I will also be getting all of the books a computer files from the previous treasurer. Yay! A challenge, and an outlet for my OCDness.

Nothing much new with the kids. Jack and I did a little bit of school today (HE is the one who is chomping at the bit, pulling stuff out and asking to do stuff). Jack pulled out a biography of George Washington today and was able to read quite a bit of it!

As I was vacuuming the floor, I turned around a saw Audrey with a vacuum attachment "helping." It was too cute. On the not so cute side, I fell asleep in the chair for a couple of minutes. When I woke up, there was Audrey, sans diaper! I had her in one of the velcro diapers, which she was able to take off. Luckily, I didn't fall asleep for long so we didn't have any "incidents."

Ahh the joys of parenting!
